Shot 40 was fired only the next morning with no increase in speed, meaning a new cannister is needed. Pellet used was Daystate 8.44's 4.53.
This means that most of the time I am using a different position and different supports for every shot . Now while that is usualy not a problem for PCP's or centerfires with a springer this elevates the hold sensitivity isue of springers.
How do you guys get past this ? I have develop a bit of a standard hold , but have to addapt it to my support for each shot , and ive been thinking that a smooth glove on my left hand could help me a bit.

I just learnt something today that I was kind of stunned about - doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me....

I was told that the energy yield you could expect from a 5.5mm FAC TX200 would be in the region of 16ft/lbs.......And there I was, thinking one would get at least somewhere around 23ft/lbs. I mean, a .177/4.5mm PCP and or springer is quite capable of delivering 16ft/lbs, so why "upgrade" to a 5 or 5.5mm if energy levels stay the same?

Or am I mistaken? 23ft/lbs would mean around 750fps with a 18 or so grain pellet - somehow it still seems to me that this should be quite easily achievable in a decent springer? Or not?

I noticed a slow leak on the FX ( Camo's old one ) and decided to take it to Twinbore for a full service. 2 days later it was ready for collection. I fetched it Saturday morning and was glad to find that Henry's son even tweaked the magezine indexer that was slipping. we did a quick chrony test and I was really happy with the 1018fps result at 200bar. And that is with the power grub screw about 2 thirds out. Im guessing its running at about 80% power. Further tests will confirm. I will do a shot string when I see Joggie on the long weekend.

I fitted my scope back home and got it zeroed in just a few shots. The top 2 targets was me me clicking away. I then did 2 shot groups per target and ended up with an 8mm 5 shot group in the middle of the page. I refilled to 200bar, and starded counting shots all the way down to 100bar. i got 6 x 8 shot mags. 48 shots without POI shift. All this at 18m. I didnt feel like moving the whole setup to the back yard. I then went to Spar and bought a bar of green soap. I wanted to do terminal bullistics test, but I would have retest with a harder substance. It went clean ( no pun intended ) through 5 x 1inch bars of soap. I also made a thread cap for the barrel and pollished the silender on the lathe.

It was a good fun day of shooting a really lovely rifle. This made me wonder why this rifle didnt sell quickly. Henry recons one of is costomers wants to sell his for R12000. I madness, but confirms to me that they are understated in the market. The service a bit pricy at R1050, but now its good for 2 years they say. All n all a pleasant weekend stooting.

Field test to follow.

My brother's oldest son (10years old) is part of the school shooting team.
I think it s called 3P

They are now thinking to buy him a better riffle. He currently shoots with the school riffles or with his Gamo shado 640.

My brother recons thery shoot with a CZ200R ot CZ200R (not quite sure about the R or the T)

Any advice on what riffle to get would be great. What is the limitations or can you shoot with anything?
They are on quite a buget so pls keep this in mind when making suggestions. Having said that please let me know what is the thing to get as the school might make a sponsership/contribution

Can anyone pls point me to the tread on 3P riffle that was on the forum not to long ago - cant find it

Ok, so how many of you guys out here do actually shoot with open sights?? Even just for fun now and then. I think we have become so accustomed to telescopic sights, that it's basically become a 'lost art'...? When I let my young ones shoot with open sights, recently I got some strange reactions from some fellow shooters. Their kids have never used open sights... I believe that there are situations where the use of open sights may even be preferable. Like when you're doing some late afternoon PC and light is too bad for scope use. Or getting rid of some rats at close range- no telescope, in my opinion, offers such quick sight allignment at close range...! What are the opinions out there??

Did some target shooting in the backyard (30m is all I've got here) this morning with the S400 5.5 FAC Carbine. Now firstoff I know that this might look to some of you that it was shot with a "haelgeweer", but I do more PC with my time on hand, than Target shooting. Will get to the one hole groups, don't worry.

Anyway. . . . After I shot this, I start wondering if there is such a thing as first shot attraction. That your subconcious mind is steering your next four pellets to the first one ?

This was 5 shot groupings, all at 30m, outside, no wind, no ajustments to the scope in between plates, presure kept around 180 to 150 bar (pumped after each ten shots), on bench with homemade beanbags. Pellets is JSB Exact 15.9 gr.

Is there such a thing as " First shot attraction" ?
Have a look and I would love to hear your comments.

What are your opinions about this gun?

Looking for a Rifle for around 1k for my little sister of 11, something light enough for her too handle and easy to cock.

She has been shooting with my red Ryder for a few weeks now and seems to be enjoying it. She will only be shooting in the back yard at about 10m at cans and such, also the riffle will only be to see if she is into shooting, and if so there will be a next rifle if not then so it will be.

The reasons why I'm considering this rifle are 1) its extremely light weight 2) very easy to cock 3) it comes in pink and 4) its quite affordable. I have shot a few shots with one of these and seem to be very accurate and fun.

If anyone has any suggestions let me know thanx

I am going to be shooting with my HW50S with a 4-12 scope. I'm doin the shoot for the fun of it, not to actually place anywhere so I am happy with the rifle.

Apart from a hat, bench rest rests and some pellets, whats the absolute minimum I still need?

Do I really need a cushion for the FT section?
What positions are legal for the freestyle shots?

I have had a bit of trouble with the acuracy of the TX lately , so I shot some groups on a paper target. It was grouping low , so I rezeroed it .
Something was still not right and after a chat with guido I stipped it down.

Everything inside apeared to be in order so I reasembled it , zeroed and shot some groups .

Again I was not happy so I pulled off some shots with my eyes closed concentrating on the trigger and detected a bit of creep in the trigger. A cloclwize adjustment of 1/4 turn clockwise on the first stage adjustment screw to take it closer to sear disengagement before the second stage and it felt right.

I shot some groups again and I am back in busness :D

This thread is not to insult or shame anyone. It is my personal view and written in support of Piet.

I am ashamed and disgusted, that over the last few weeks there has once again been those who find it necessary to tarnish the name and character of Piet Breedt. I find these attacks insulting towards Piet and the shooting community as a whole. Sitting on this side of the screen, I can only conclude that they are born of a personal nature, and I therefore find myself compelled to share my thoughts.

The air rifle shooting community in South Africa is very small, and we as FT, Bench, 3P or the backyard plinker, should support one another and not instigate or get involved in arguments in open forum that bring our sport in disrepute.

Piets achievements are well known, and rather than list them, I thought I will share my first experience with the man.

When I got my son involved in FT, the first thing that struck me was that this was a sport practiced by sportsmen and above all, gentleman. This feeling was further enforced at nationals in 2009. It was the first time WP sent a team to Nationals, and we could sense the north south rivalry in the air. One of the first to welcome us and make us feel at home was Piet. He openly shared his knowledge and experience with us, and during the event he kept encouraging Francois and offering advice. This had a marked effect on Francois, and he performed way above my expectations.

On our return to Cape Town, I contacted Piet and he shared some newly gained knowledge with me. I asked if I should keep this to myself, and Piets answer was what surprised me. He said that he welcomes competition, and by sharing knowledge with his competitors, they up there game which in turn, forces him to up his.

That statement speaks volumes of the man’s character and sportsmanship.

I have since contacted Piet on numerous occasions, and he always has the time to offer advice or share his experience.

The man’s shooting ability is of the highest standard, which he once again proved this year at nationals, when he progressed from 8th on the rankings to finish 2nd. If I am not mistaken, this is the 4th occasion Piet has made the Protea side and captained the team. Not bad for a man who some say is but a flash in the pan who has an occasional good day.

      Piet, I salute you sir.

Thank you for your unselfish contribution to the sport of FT in South Africa.

Over valuation of Extreme Spread

I use to be very conserned about the extreme spread (es) of my FT competition gun, and check it regularly over a chrony. Logic told me the smaller the es, the more accurate the gun and the better chance I have of winning.

Then I got sponsored an EV2 mk4 and my focus changed.

When I received the EV in Des '09 I chronied an entire fill, and was happy with a 12 ft/s spread (es) over 96 shots.

I never chronied it again cause I have never lost an FT match since I got the EV, I was hitting most of the targets and had nothing to complain about, no reason to check it over a chrony.

Then I noticed the EV started shooting constantly about 1.5 mil dots low, so it must have lost speed. I wanted it at 790ft/s, so just for the hell of it I chronied it again and saw that the es has increased from 12 ft/s to 19 ft/s over 100 shots. Weirdest thing is I still hit almost every target in practise and in competition, dispite the spread.

I took it to Louis who confirmed the spread, we removed the scope, opened her up to see if the "slide Hammer" ( the thing that hits the valve) was still clean, as it will certainly effect the es if not clean.

It was filthy, so we gave it a good cleanup and polish.

We reassembled the gun and chronied, 13 ft/s es over 90 shots. I'm smilling again.

So whats my point you may ask, well what do you think is my point?:)

Driving to Delmas this afternoon to test the HW57. The price for basically new is half of the HW97 but wondering if it's worth saving/waiting for the HW97K? I know most guys on the forum really rate the HW97.....guess my liking of the HW57 is mainly for my 11yr old son to be able to handle a lot easier.....but now read/heard comments about the pop up breech possibly affecting accuracy and being fiddly??:help:
