    Default Range Magazine ?

About a year ago I found one of these local mags in a gun shop . I have tried to find one since , none seem to be around . All the telephone , fax & e'mails are unanswered . Has it closed down ?
I thought it quite a nice mag , giving a lot of competition results & stories . Magnum is a great mag , but it is of general interest & does'nt do too much in the way of competiton reporting . I think that their target is more of a general fire arms enthusiast .

Is there any local mag that does that , or is there a local mag for air gun nuts ?

Yes the mag closed down. Used to do write-ups on field target for them and they just disappeared. Were left with five articles that were never published but magnum refused to publish articles that did not come from their 'specialists" aka KB.
Pitty it went down for it was filling the gap magnum left.

Personally prefered Range over Magnum for many reasons.
Magnum is alot like a Jack of all trades (KB) ... master of none ! The idea is there but that's about it.
Don't get me wrong, I buy Magnum ever month and still enjoy reading it, problem is that there's nothing else.
Define specialist ... gun specialists ... firearm ... spring airgun ... pcp ... telescopes ... hunting ... pellets ... I (and quite a few of the other forum members) know much more about airguns than ANY of the Magnum specialists ...
Kobus, on the Magnum articles story, join the club, been there ... done that !
Current setup reminds me of a certain telecommunications company ...

Hey Lewis, how about putting those five articles out for us.
    Either .doc or .pdf format?
Maybe a future Airgun E-zine in the making?

Thanks for the feed back on Range Mag .
Magnum , well I really enjoy it . Its a good all round read , for a gun nut , who likes hunting , combat pistol , combat rifle , a bit of shot gun shooting & a lot of air rifle & air pistol shooting .
Keith Dyer has a fantastic general knowledge of guns all guns , old & new .
He'd love to get out a bit more to report on events , but there are only so maany hours in a day , & not enough time .
KB is also a good guy , just needs more coaching on this great sport .
    Enjoy the shoot .

Please understand that I'm personally not judging anybody's character ! I don't know the people at Magnum personally therefore I don't know if they are "good" people. They probably all are, but ... saying that they are "specialists" is a very dangerous statement to make, like I said before, in what fields ?
I also e-mailed Magnum about some of the airgun reviews and made a few comments, till this day .. no reply, but a month later they said in the mag that people must understand that they can only allow SPECIALISTS to review the equipment, and also that due to money restrictions can't do more in depth reviews on equipment. NOW THAT IS BULLS!#T.
Magnum airgun reviews are pathetic compared to UK reviews ! Check under reviews on www.aftsa.co.za and you will see what I mean...
Anyway, will go and take a chillpill ... my 25c. (to those I just offended, it's a jungle out there ... )
That said, I still read Magnum every month !

If you publish your "expert" opinion, you must be prepared to accept that people will evaluate your opinion against their own experience and that of others. The fact that they view your expertise in a poor light cannot be regarded as a personal attack, especially if those people are possessed of some expertise themselves. If you put yourself on a pedestal, be sure that tomatoes will be aimed at you - accept that some are going to hit you and accept that some are going to be less than freshly picked. By the way, I also buy and read Magnum every month, but that does not mean that I have to accept everything in there as gospel.

I see from some of the replies , you guys are very passionate about your air guns . Well , so am I . I was not defendinding Magnum as expert , I just mentioned that its a good general , all round read . Unfortunately , I am not as clued up as some of you are & for obvious reasons I then take in what is written . However , as you point out about the air gun reviews , & the stories on pellets , yes , they were a bit vague & in my opinion , left more questions than answers .

You're 100% correct, the passion is definately there, ask my girlfriend ... she's threatened my guns already ! (was very scary )
But besides my love for airguns, it's also the fact that the standard of MOST things in SA is way below the international standard. Now that just pees me off. There is absolutely NO REASON in the world why our Reviews can't be done as in-depth as reviews found in overseas mags.
    Anyway, cheers
