Some time ago I started a thread enquiring how short can one go on a PCP barrel?
I have a BSA R10 , regulated, .177 FAC PCP that I thought would make a great PC Carbine, as I required something small, handy, that points well, can be used in “confined spaces” offers practical accuracy out to a max of 25 meters with enough energy to get the job done.
I was reluctant to cut down the exciting barrel and shroud, as I like the option of returning her back to standard form and I was a bit concerned that the end result would be a #%$ up.
I was lucky enough to get hold of a Weihrauch .177 barrel and Lloyd used one of his connections to do the cutting and machining to fit the action. A new, shorter, threaded shroud was built from scratch.
I am very pleased with the end result, she barks like my ex without the silencer, but as you can see in the photos, I have no intention or need to ever remove the silencer. With the silencer in place she sounds just like my other silenced PCP’s with the exception of my 12 fpe S400 which is very quiet.
The original barrel is 470 mm long, the Mini-Me barrel is 220 mm long
Overall length of the entire rifle incl silencer is now only 850mm, compared to the 1240mm of my Air Ranger .20 ! ! !
She is good for 855 fps, much faster than I was expecting, with Air Arms Field 8.4 gr pellets (13.64 fpe) and gives a good, consistent 40 shots, that’s 4 x 10 shot mag from a regulated 230 Bar , 200 cc bottle. Perfect for my needs.
I fitted a Leupold Copy, 3.5-10x40 scope that I got from Cor. A MTC Viper side wheel fits perfectly. What I really like about this scope is that up to 6 mag, she will focus from just less than 10 meters out to the kinda distances I will shooting to, without having to manipulate the focus side wheel, hence the wheel will be coming off, as I want to keep the bulk down to a bare minimum
Shot to shot spread is pretty good too. The 1st mag over the chrony looks like this:
My photos show her in different stages of assembly as well as compared to the original R10 and BSA MK III Bull Barrel Carbine, for comparison.
Also shown with original barrel and shroud , what’s left of the cut down Weihrauch barrel and the “silver looking” unfinished shroud that was cut too short.
Target shown was shot off a bench @ 20 m. 10 shots.
Also shown is Mini-Me next to my Air Ranger.
Just look at how small she is next to a Zos 10-40x60 scope!
Tried her briefly over the weekend and she works !
I must thank Lloyd for his assistance with the conversion and Cor for a lovely little scope that works a dream on this little rifle.
