    Default fitting a silencer..

ok - Madam got me a silencer for my birthday, and the shop assured her it would fit my BAM51.
but 4am saturday morning when i opened my pressies, for the life of me i could not get it to fit on the end of the barrel. its a fraction of a mm to small. anyways - she took it back to the gunshop now and they told her that that is how it should be, and to fit it, i need to smack the thing hard onto the end of the barrel..
now no-one is coming near my rifle with a hammer... unless you learned folk out there confirm this is the correct way to fit a silencer??? its got 2 hex screws that would tighten it in place once on..
what do I do ? hammer it on, or is the gun shop just not wanting to give a refund?? :dunno

Don't force it if it doesn't want to go on!!

The silencer should be a close sliding fit to the barrel o/d.

hmmm i thought they were just talking a hole in her head.. i think that is definitely the last time we buy anything from that shop - everything we have ever gotten there has had to be returned!

if it's woodchuck silencer then is the same one i got. no need to force it in. the size just right for BAM.

if no luck with that shop just get refund and ask Casper to make one for u.

May be you can consider putting the supressor in the oven (say at 250degree for a blued one and no more than 150 for ones with paint on job)just long enough to reach the temp and your barrel in the freezer to see if that will work based on the heat=expension principle. Some flash hiders are actually fitted onto the assults rifle this way (with way hotter than oven temp) but then you may not be able to take it out again.....

sound theory Stopper - bit if it doesn't fit, it doiesn't fit. i want to right thing from start and not have to resort to methods to get it on. the shop should know what they are selling and sell the right thing.
Boondock - how do i get hold of Casper??

Agree on that! I think dealer mustn't $crew us around because they can and/or don't know better.

I wouldn't advise the oven thing if there are any plastic bits on/in the silencer.

Have you thought of loosening the grub screws before fitting over the barrel or worst case scenario, to take of the mussel brake off first?

You could always polish the bore of the silencer until it fits.Problem is if you dont do it well you might as well trow the thing in the bin.

Easier just to take it back and demand a refund, we South Africans always complain about poor service but it never gets any better because we always try to "make a plan" and the retailer gets away with it.
