    Default HW97

Hi All and a very good 2005 to you all.

You guys with the know how. How good an air rifle is the HW97 for FT for someone on a limited budget? The air rifle will have to double up as an occasional hunting rifle for pigeons etc. I'm getting a lot of queries from young and old alike interested in starting in the sport but not willing to lay out the funds for a PCP setup.

    Please help and thanks

When it comes to FT there's only 3 Spring guns ... HW77, HW97 and TX200.
They are all excellent rifles with good quality, accuracy and triggers

    What about the S200 PCP?
The advantage being that as more funds become available to the shooter the S200 can be transformed into a pretty good FT rig

I agree on the S200, but the question was about Spring Guns...
When going the S200 route you will spend atleast another R 2000 on the bottle and connection which makes it much more expensive than the Spring Guns.
The HW9x and TX200 are extremely accurate but more difficult to shoot than a PCP and that's why people believe that PCP's are ALWAYS more accurate than Spring Guns.
One day when budget allows I will buy myself a TX200 / HW97.

The other good thing about this, people who start with "cheaper" kits could and most probably would upgrade at a later stage, meaning that we are slowly but surely creating a 2nd hand market.
    Guido's guns is a small 2nd hand market on it's own !

I have an HW97k (.20) - it is a heavy rifle (4.0kg) but is nearly as accurate as my S410K (.177).
