    Default Overseas Air gun Magazines

How much do the various magazines go for ?
Do you guys think they are worth the money ?

    I personally don't think so, reasons :
they are dominated by ads that are of no value to us,
    the reviews are always good,
the information are not aimed at the South African market at all.

    Your opinions ?

I don't subscribe , but get it a month later for about R10 at the bookstore.

imo it's like dialup internet, it may not be the best solution, but without an alternative....well it's better than nothing!

I once complained about the price of mags after the exise duty was taken off books some years ago. I was told that the importer was the person to speak to, all I got was "Tough, we have to pay for flying the stuff in so you have to pay what we say". So you can expect about double the price of the UK cost. Take a look at most of the mags on any subject and you'll find that most of the pages are given to ads of some sort, see GQ for instance.
I think a totally Airgun related mag would be great but I think theres as much chance of that as winning the lottery. As for aiming anything at the SA market...we are at the butt end of the World, who gives an s.h.i.t. Ask any American where South Africa is, you would be amazed at the answer.

Did you say R 10 (for example Airgunner magazine) ? For that price I won't complain either.

Airgun World and AIrgunner are for kids...they are a good introduction to airgunning and are full of adverts relevant to the British public.
The articles are infantile and all the guns reviewed always get excellent comments.
They also only show rifles commonly used in the UK...they hardly ever feature more powerful American set-ups and German FT rifles.
I buy one every year just for the latest ads and prices...otherwise the best source of info is off the forums.

I buy the overseas mags now and again, purely for something to read at the office and see what's 'out there'.

Agree with guido about forums and web sites though. I think you'll get a better real world opinion from a person who's had experience with a rifle / kit AND doesn't have to say nice things about it purely to pay the bills.

Ta for those links guido - didn't have the .org ones.

Airgun World is the only airguns mag i can get my hands on and while i would never subscibe, i enjoy reading it.

Reviews (normally by mr Tucker) tend to be a copy from the previous edition with only the manufacturer's name changed(all guns get 93% in the Tucker test) and i would never use it as a benchmark of real performance nor would it influence me in buying the gun.

However - Like most things in life, there's only so much you can get to know about a certain subject and even on the most informative forums, information tends to be repeated.

Some of the reading must be done between the lines, but still - if it's about airguns, i'll read it.

If you order Airgun World directly from their website you pay half the price.

    Still not worth the money.
Just checked out the latest edition of Airgun World at CNA.
It's the same as the AUgust 04 edition I have, same adverts, similar hunting articles with pics just taken from a different angle. [sheesh those hunting articles are ridiculous...are they written for 5 year olds??]
Only interesting thing is the new single shot Logun and the new plastic looking FX. Can rather find out about them online.

If you really want to read good honest air rifle reviews then keep an eye out for Koos Barnard's
    article's in the Man Magnum.
He pulls no punches about the equipment he tests
and tells you what you need to know without the suger coating of Air Gun World.

    If u say so Martin.
I really don't consider the Magnum reviews as good reviews...
    but that's just my opinion...
