    Default Maintenance of a Springer

Following the responses on the dieseling thread has left me a bit confused. I messed up an old Diana I had as a kid by regularly pumping oil into the chamber to "oil the plunger properly".

What is the recommended maintenance for a springer - in this case a BSA Airsporter

    Werner,
Iím sorry nobody else has answered you so far. Now youíve got to listen to what a non expert has to say.
Oil is a petroleum substance and will normally combust under high pressure, resulting in the dieseling which isnít good to the rifleís piston seal as well as the spring and creating uncontrolled velocities of the exiting pellets.
High temperature combusting greases such as CV joint grease are recommended as a lubricant to the piston seal and only in very light applications.
Clean dry barrels is good enough, no need for a drop of oil.
Rubber o-rings are also vulnerable to most oils and care must be taken. If possible you should try and use a silicon grease on o-rings.
Triggers and other moving parts can be lightly oiled.
The outer of the rifle should be dried and protected with a light oil cover to prevent rust.

    Help People, Iím stuck

It's just that to answer such a generic question would take forever...rather do some resarch on the web first and then ask some more specific questions...everything is there for the taking..
