    Default Olympic Gold--USA future--Chinese scholars.

An interesting thread has been posted on-- www.targettalk.org. section --Shooters Lounge titled Olympic Gold.

This is why Target Shooting at SA.Schools must be encouraged and promoted if we are to improve our International successes.

This is why all committed shooters in SA. should endeavour to create partnerships and build the sport together with one another so that we keep the youngsters shooting when they leave school.

3 P Sporter Air Rifle is the saviour of our shooting codes in SA.
    SA. Schools are on track.

Without participation at Schools the sport will die faster than we think is possible.

    Get involved!!!!

    Halleluja

I support ADIV fully on this.

A POPE once said give me the young and we (the church) have them for live.

We better start looking after the schools and their programs.

The results may not be immediate, but in a (very) few years the other shooting codes will benefit from shooters developed at schools level.

I call on all shooting codes take hand with the likes of Mike Potgieter and other visionaries at schools and let our wonderful sport have a chance to survive!!!

    andrsny,
The problem is we are preaching to the converted. The biggest problem is the children with airguns, blow pipes etc. roaming the streets, shooting pets and hunting in public parks.

    Gerrief

    Might be so.

My wife is a coach at schools level and I have been involved with the administration side up to SAARA level, Interpersonal politics is killing our sport.

Thus I went back to grassroots and now supporting the schools program further [snip snip ¤¤.

By boosting schools shooting on forums like this, I believe I contribute more to shooting [snip snip ]

    Kind regards

    Gerrie,

    Andre,
I agree wholeheartedly with you. The shooting sport needs people like you and your wife and we are thankful for the work you do. I tried for two years to get the school my daughter attended to start shooting AGAIN. They have the .22 shooting range etc. but to no avail. I don’t have the 10m/ Olympic shooting knowledge to coach and the teachers are too busy with rugby, cricket, hockey and netball to worry about a sport that does not give the school “exposure.”
As far as politics are concerned, I have not seen or participated in a sport that has more politics than the shooting sport. It is a pity but a fact of life. GB

    Importer,
'n Mens besef nie altyd hoe ander jou beleef nie.

Dit net so terloops.

    Thanx guys

All the good words about schools shooting.

What worked in my wifes case:
    -Fanatical enthusiasm from the coach
-Good internal marketing (previous successes help a lot)
-Parental involvement (management of the "club" etc etc)

And a LOT of patience, thick skinnedness when others try to hurt you and perserverance to go on..

A keen eye to identify a potential shooter is of course the cherry on top!!!!

    ps.
My wife has been coaching for the past 15 year, first smallbore now airrifle

Ek wil net iets by voeg by die politiek storie. Ek is self 'n skole skut.

    RobertMcL,

    Guys

I further read on the target talk forum that the Chinese have 8000 shooters, 3000 coaches and 30 shooting centre's and a sport psychologist at EACH school.

How I wish we (in South Africa) could get just a fraction of this kind of support

Julius Ceaser had a strategy which served him well but cost him his life with the senate and his best confidants. He believed that you ruled through devision. Currently the same trait is being applied in shooting sport. People cause divisions to crow rooster of the yard with little thought to the long term consequences.

If you take one pencil you will break it with little force but a bunch of pencils is a different story altogether.

To answer adrsny, it is possible to achieve such a dream but the differences must be put aside and a vision and mission set up to reach that common goal. It is correct that the youth is the mainstay of tomorrow's shooting sports but it is also true that there are youths in this country today with exceptional talent who is being influenced negatively in terms of participation and relationships due to divisions amongst adults and organizations.

Together shooting organizations will make an impact, devided they will rot away into oblivion with no-one a winner and the greatest looser will be the shooter and the parent who supports the sport.

My plea is simple, we need a single formal air rifle shooting body to administer air rifle shooting in SA as it is the shooting sport of the future where we can make our presence felt in the international shooting arena.
