Default First National Field Target Shoot in New Zealand

We had our first FT shoot over the weekend. It was a tough course with the wind changing directions at least 5 times before the pelet hit a target. The scores were lower than expected but not many points from leader to 8th. A shoot off was held to determine 2nd place.

The shoot took place in Wanganui. About 6 1/2 hours drive South from Auckland and 5 hours from North Wellington. I came 8th on Saturday and 4th on Sunday.

We have shooters all around NZ. There is no club in Wellington as yet but a couple guys on our forum are in the process of forming and are looking for somewhere to shoot.

We had about 30 or so.

If and when you do come over, dont forget to pack your airguns. We currently dont have any power or callibre restrictions. If you get to explore the country side before you settle and start working, get hold of me and I'm sure we could catch up for a shoot if you are in the Auckland area.

Javz, do you have the 16j limit on your FT comp rifles, as is the norm throughout the world, except the USA?

    Piet,
AFA I know they have no restrictions at all becuase the law allows it that way. Like USA they are not interested in 16j.

Yes Gerrief, I know, so it is here by us aswell, and we are shooting at 16j. I was just asking, because if not, are they going to compete on the world circuit where the standard is set at 16j

    Hi Piet,
What I meant to say was that IF I remember correctly they indicated that they would like to shoot at the higher settings because it would mean the same as us, modify your rifle. I can't talk for them but I seem to remeber something like that.

We shot on full power. My gun shoots at 27fpe. We are interested in the world circuit and are looking at a 12fpe class for the National series next year. The winners of that would be chosen for the Worlds at the lower settings. I'm not sure what fpe 16j is. I'm hoping to make the squad for the SA Worlds. Free trip back home.

Javz, 16j = 12fpe, I think, and is a rifle that shoots a 8.44gr pellet at no more than 800ft/ sec.

Most rifles is set to shoot at 785 ft/sec, then it gives you leverage when the velocity increases slightly due to temp, or barometric press, or altitude, or what ever that makes the rifles shoot at different velocitys.

All airrifles differ slightly from day to day, and from area to area, esspecialy in a country like ours, where we shoot at vastly differing altitudes.

Well if I'm to shoot in the worlds in the future I might have to buy a new gun. I'm currently shooting 14.3gr Accupells at 900fps. AA Fields at 16.3 shoots at 880fps
