    Default long range shots report

from the shooting position to the white clay line in the far back is today's firing range... the wind was very stronge but we still decided to have little long range fun... it's the first time we shoot at that distance... 160 yards!
    http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...n/IMG_0211.jpg

we use a big wood board at a target... it's pretty huge so we can't missing it that easy in the stronge wind... after few test shots to locate where is drop and windage is... i use 10x mag and mil-dot to get the some idea of POI... then i have throw 10 EJ 24gr pellets into the wood board from 160yards away... as seen with red circle... 9 shots managed to land on the board.... not too bad for the first attempt...

the 2nd attempt going to be 10shots JSB 13.7gr... also few shots to test windage and POI in advance... no suprise.. the lighter JSB landed 1 meter higher than EJ... the wind getting very bad... hardly can keep rifle steady enough... had to aim half meter away from the target... also tried best to squeeze trigger as smooth as possible to let it shoot straight... moments later, 10 shots landed on the wood board with smaller group...

the bench is not nice... but who cares...my shooting buddy also tried 5 shots... http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...n/IMG_0220.jpg

his 4 of 5 shots pretty impressive... got 1 flyer due to the stronge wind....

my 3rd attempt is to threw 10 shots JSB 13.7gr to a 20L oil can at the same distance ... 8 of 10 shots manage to land on the oil can ... 5 of them quite tight... i think i can live that kind of accuracy at 160 yards for now...

If you consider the limited amount of energy that you have to work with I think that was a fair effort you made.

I was almost expecting a 1 hole group :jester

Yes, that was paced out at a position we frequently go to and would be some 150m, give or take a few......
You need to keep the magnification set low at that distance, purely to keep the rifle from wandering around at higher magnification..... If we had optimal shooting conditions, like a proper bench-rest, calm wind conditions etc., we could possibly have tried it at say 20x mag, but this was experimental and a base to start from......
Higher mag. than that only makes the hold that much more difficult to keep still.... What is the scariest, is the fact that you aim about 1m high and to the right completely off the target.... After about two to three seconds, you only hear the pellet striking the board...... We did not have a spotting scope, otherwise one would be able to adjust the scope to compensate for POI.....

by calculation.. from pellets left muzzle until i can hear it's impact sound.. it should only take 1.03sec... but we did feel it took longer than that... becoz after pulled trigger.. we had time to unscope from the target.. and rest the rifle.. looked away... then BANG! very funny...

    thx Boondock

All I know this Elite 1500 rangefinder works down to 5 yds and is extremely accurate within +- 1\2 yds on airgun ranges.

I ranged the back of Table Mountain [Judas Peak] behind my house at 845 yds...

golf only? i m confussed... hav a look of this link http://www.bushnell.com/arc/bushnellgps_tv02.htm...

really need to invest a good rangefinder for long range use... every time to measure the ground with tape or by walking is difficult....
