Default Field Target: TX200 vs EV2

Okay, so I turned to my TX200 to shoot FT and left the EV2 on the shelf the last couple of shoots. I enjoy shooting the TX200 more and more and learning from past mistakes I shoot more accurate every time.

I figured out an extra trick yesterday at Hippo Creek that increased my accuracy and consistency. That inspired me to compare my PCP FT rifle and springer FT rifle. (pity I only figured it out halfway through the 2nd shoot )

At this point I will say that learning from the TX200 I am of the opinion that my EV is not set up correctly. I am also of the opinion that my EV gives me flyers every now and then. So this test was to compare my ability with my EV2 as it is now and my TX200 as it is now.

    The rifles in question:

    Rules of the test:

15 consecutive shots, 3 groups of five. (however, I did shoot a 6 shot group with the EV on the last group. I know I pulled one high and wanted to make up for it ) Shot from my FT free style position over 26m. The black dots on my targets are 12mm in diameter. Each shot was shot as accurate as I possibly can (giving my all).

    The results from my EV2:

    The results from my TX200:

    Conclusion:

I shoot better springer than PCP

I reckon if I do a re-setup on my EV2 and I apply some of the tricks I've learned on the TX200 I will be more accurate with my EV2. However, some of my shots did fly off in their own direction, so I will need to find what is causing that.

But for now, I'm hooked on my TX200 and will continue to shoot leagues with it.

    Interesting.

I sat down with my EV2 today and saw how much easier it was to be consistent with it over my 97.

Need to do some more testing.

I find my EV VERY critical of follow-through!
If I do not follow-through correctly I get "unexplained" fliers!
Try focussing on it and see if you get better consistency.

The TX200 groupings are very impressive. One would expect the same groups with the EV. Its interesting to see the difference.

I reckon it might have to do with my setup on the EV, but from the bench my EV also threw flyers ever now and then. I will work on my follow through and change the setup. I have a Rowan Eng. air stripper on order, want to test that as well. For now, the TX200 is doing the job

What speed are you running on the TX200? I assume you are using 8.4 gr jsb or AA? My TX200 is running a bit below 12 fpe and looking at your groupings I suspect youre also well below 12 fpe.

You assume correctly with the pellets (8.44gr AA's), but I am just sub 12fpe averaging at 797fps.

The ton of lead in the stock helps.

I would not have had the stamina to use that rifle for the 2 shoots at Hippo Creek.

Definitely something drastically wrong with your EV Sean. Either your shooting position is wrong, or your rifle has a lot of faults/problems. Your EV should be shooting one hole groupings at 30m.

Still remember how well my EV performed on 50m at worlds this year, shot a 8mm ctc group at sight-in.
