    Default DIY Chrony - Working!

Hi everyone, for those who are interested in a little afternoon project this is quite a nice one.

I was having a search on Google for DIY Air rifle... then Chrony popped up so i thought i'd have a look at this and found this

Poor Man's Electronic Chronograph - Yellow Airgun Forum Archive

Very simple to make and with a bit of practice in aiming down the chrony barrel the readings pop up on the screen like magic.

Only one modification i made - i did not use the 5V power supply from the PC with the resistor. I opted for the straight 1.5V AA battery, this was however not enough power so i added 2x1.5V batteries and it worked like a charm. The electronics store must have given me hgiher voltage IR emitters??? One other thing, the software can be a bit tricky... if it gives you problems and is looking for a missing .dll file go to this link to solve the problem. Also make sure that you make your chrony barrel at least 1 foot or 1 meter long, the software has those settings as minimum default. Pellet weight can be entered and if you are having trouble with the software not picking up the pellet, reduce the two volume entries for muzzle and impact to 10 (very sensitive)

SoftChrono??? Anyone mess around with it??

Attached a pic for you to have a look at. Would like to compare it to a actual chrony to see how accurate it is.

    Thanks for sharing Chris.

Maybe look at making a stand with some padded angle or channel on which to rest the barrel or stock.

There are only 2 types of chrony. Those that have been shot and those going to be shot.

All in all it was about R90 at Yebo electronics (Next to Brights in Boston, Bellville, Cape Town) of which R20 was just wire, so if you have some spare wire laying around you could save a few bucks.

Soldering with wine never worked for me either.

I just made one too and it seems to be pretty decent! Will improve on it tomorrow and do some test shots with my QB79, I've just tested it with a crappy BB gun so far and it works perfectly!

Great stuff! A little trick to make things easier... when shooting make sure the emitters are laying vertically and not horizontally. Makes it a bit easier to line the shot up.

    Dude!

    This is awesome!
To give you an idea I paid around R1500 for a pro chrono this weekend.
and I need to pay another R650 to interface it to my pc!

Maybe I am looking in the wrong places or for the wrong thing but I cannot seem to find the hardware to do it with.

Haha yeah I figured that out after a couple of shots! This thing really looks like a decent chrony, you can even calibrate it with another one and to see how accurate it is. In theory I think this concept is bulletproof!

I shot a few shots with my QB79 and it got around 680 fps and started to drop to around 645 fps with a 9oz co2 bottle which is basically depleted.
