    Default Starting a Benchrest Club

It is now a year since I moved to the Eastern Cape and I always knew I'll end up starting a Benchrest Club here in Queenstown. So a month ago I started the process and identified possible sites. After considering the safety issues, consent use from the municipality and accreditation from the SAPS, I decided on this old school shooting range at Hangklip High School.

This is part of the proposal I made to the principal.

Yesterday building started on site and "Hangklip Precision Sport Shooting Club" became a reality.

We managed to get a few sponsors for the project including the following: 6 x 60mm thick granite tops (not polished) for the benches, all steel for the roof structure and hopefully all roof sheeting.

Looks very good. I can see an a lot of practice taking place there in preparation for next years event in Australia. If I could find a spot here just outside Jacobsbaai, I would have also put up a bench or two to practice closer to home.

Just a pitty your "club house" is behind the stop wall

    Hi Ammion,

That looks fantastic. The fact that both the municipality and SAPS have agreed is a huge step in the right direction. I am also considering setting up a range at our flying field. We have a huge piece of ground sitting on dolomite which is unsuitable for housing. There once was a "skerp punt ammunisie" range here but it got shut down as there was an accident and a death. I know I am going to have an uphill battle so any tips you can give me will be appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Mike

    Hi Paul

Is there quite an interest in air rifle shooting there in Queenstown?

    Well done Paul.
    Anywhere near the squash courts?
Go and talk to Keith Wood at MX Print for target printing. They over look the rugby field.

Mike, I think it is a bit easier in a small town - but good luck.

Bit early to tell, not much else to do here. The way I see it - should be more exciting than bowls.
