    Default Home Made Pellets

Do you want to make your own Airgun Pellets? I always have wanted to.........
    So I did.

This picture shows the casting tool and the swaging die's and the finished pellets.

This picture shows the inside of the casting tool.

This picture shows a 4.99 Pellet after been pushed down my rifles barrel.
As can be seen the rifling has not engaged the whole pellet.

This picture shows a 5.04 Pellet after been pushed down my rifles barrel.
As can be seen the rifling has engaged the whole pellet.

This picture shows a 5.10 Pellet after been pushed down my rifles barrel.
As can be seen the rifling has engaged the whole pellet and is rather deep.

For my barrel the 5.04 Pellet is the correct selection.

Have a look at the Video for an explanation on how I made the pellets.

I'm still testing, but what I've seen so far looks very promising.
I'm hoping they will perform well for long distances.

At the moment I can make any thing from 15gr to 20gr.

If I make a new casting die I can make any mass I want.

At present they are .20, again with different die's I can make any calibre.

Regarding accuracy at 25m they are as accurate as JSB's, they just need more oomf because the riffeling engages the whole pellet.

I want to test them over longer distances, then we will see........watch this space.

The casting is quick about 360/hour.
    The swaging is about 100/hour.

    Hi Peat,

Looking Good, we need to chat again .

Please post some target pictures of how they perform.

These are the .20cal pellets developed with Fox for is .20 BAM I built for him. Final pellet was a 52gn air bullet launched at +-905fps. Far right pellet in pic below (recovered pellets at top from back 10 pages of the second DNB phone book at 35m)
    [IMG][/IMG]
and the pellet below was a 40gn second from right in picture above from pre-testing, picture below, pellet recovered from phone book at 35m at +-850fps. Pellet at left on pic below I think was a EJ from the same rifle set up running at +-1000fps.
    [IMG][/IMG]
You can see the pellet progression from the EJ in the the top picture. We found that the short stubby pellets were inaccurate at the velocities we were working on. Also you have to some how reduce the surface area that the rifling actually engages (your first pellet picture is about right), so we settled on a driving band at the base that we could increase or decrease for rifling engagement. The rest of the pellet must bore ride as tight as possible, with out getting rifling marks, to keep it from flopping around (this is a technical term ).
The 52gn pellets gave excellent accuracy on silhouette shaped targets from 85 to 200 meters away.
I have a few new designs that maybe we can collaborate on for testing and as soon as Scout Sniper has finished is new project rifle we can see how well they fly over long ranges.
