    Default RSA CUSTOM STOCKS

Hi to all visiting this Thread.

I would like to see DIY stocks created by the DIY enthusiast.
Discussions on methods, finishing, tips & tricks by the PRO's are welcome for inexperienced guys like me.

My son's stock, 99% finished, rifle is a no name, China creation I suppose.

Wow, very nice. Was this done entirely by hand or was a cnc used?

    Hi UllUllA

That is a very nice stock you have made judging by the pictures. I will be looking for a stock for a very special rifle early in the new year and you will definitely get a option to quote for me.

    Kind regards

    Mike

    Thanks Guys

I think that stock is worth 4 times the amount that rifle cost me.
I do all the work with a dremel, dril, sander and elbow grease.
Unfortunately my duplicator still needs to be modified to do the inlets, so at the moment its also done by hand.

I would be glad to quote you, cause I don't have any more rifles to create stocks for.

    Cheers

Once again I could not help myself, just had to start a new stock.
Just need to get to Rarewoods for some dark wood, hope I can afford it.

I loved the stock that was posted earlier this week, so here is the start of my version.
Obviously my hand and eye coordination is not as good as a cnc machine.

Why not just stain an offcut of the same wood for the accents and/or the butt plate?

Thanks AdrianV, I hope to post alot more "Kelvinator stocks" in the future.

Any questions or statements about wood or stocks, be my guest ask away and I hope everyone finds what they are seeking.

I will see if I can find it at Rarewoods next week, post the size to price.

Minister K, I will try that, but thinking long term, I do not know if it will fade in the future and might stain clothing.

    Cheers

That depends, you could stain and seal or Duco or any number of other possibilities in between.

With every new stock your technique is getting more refined, this one should be a real looker when finished.

I would have thought one of those small timber mills up in the Knysna forest will be a better bet. There are some that only process indigenous woods.

According to some of the smaller guy there are only one firm that collects all those types of wood and sells them to places like rare woods.
They also can not buy small quantities, so most of them only do the lighter colored wood.
Swart hout, Geel hout, ens. I was lucky to find that piece of "Wit Stink hout" that I am bussy with.

I will have to find someone in the wood trade to source the Walnut, Maple and maybe Iron wood at a better price than Rarewoods.
    These guys are between R15 000 and R25 000 per m.

Just did a cal, that curly Maple blanks works out to about R 590 000 per m, please correct me if i'm wrong.

    Thanks guys
