Default Rain: What influince does it have?

After the weekends shooting in the rain, the guys all chatted about what influince a raindrop will have on the course of your pellet if it hits it.

Anyone out there that can tell us more?

There was an article in Airgun World a couple of issues ago. Will check later and post it.
As far as I can remember it only has an effect if a pellet is actually hit by a raindrop.

    Hi. Thanx!
What is the chances of it not being hit by a raindrop at 50m?

Probability that it will be hit would be dependant on the distance and quantity of rain falling. In a light drizzle probably slight, in a heavier shower probably very high. Out to 50m probably pretty good chance it's going to be affected in all but the lightest shower.

A good way round this is to load two pellets, the front one then clears a path leaving the second one to strike the target unaffected by the rain.

well it's moving at 1500km, but a rain drop or two is sure to hit it.

Well, I have definately found that I have to aim a bit higher.
Like Tomcat said, it depends on the amount of rain and size of the drops.
I don't think there will be a real scientific calculatation to work this one out.

I think other than the fact that the air is denser in the rain (liek shooting in water) the pellet also weighs a bit more as it is wet. All of this will translate in reducing velocity down range and thus lowering the poi

I aggree with Chuck. who would not though But I think if you shoot in something like mist it will only be downwards. bigger raindrops could be over the place depending on where a drop hits the pellet

Don't forget, when it rains there is generally wind as well. Rain seldom fall straight down. I have the AGW article. Just need to scan it and I'll post. Also trying to do some work....
