I object to buying Schmidt & Bender in Principle. They are WAY over priced for their quality (in my opinion). I was looking at (and did quite extensive research in the area) Leupold,Zeiss,Swarovski and S&B as options for the new scope on the 30-06.
1.You don't have to be ashamed to have any of these on your rifle.
2.The Swarovski (though priced even higher), did show more improvement in quality, clarity etc than the S&B.
Prices of the Leupold M III compared to that of the Zeiss conquest.
The only time I was really able to see any diff in clarity between the two scopes was when I took them outside at night with only the street lights providing light.
In general I feel when you pass the 7-8k Mark on any scope, a lot will depend on personal preference and pre-obtained ideas about a scope. Personally I'd sooner buy a Leupold/Zeiss before I go for S&B.
I happened to settle for the Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X44. I'm very happy with it
Maybe one day, when I have more money than sense and I'm having my custom 30-06 sniper rifle built, I'll put a Swarovski on it.
