Default Converting AA S410 XTRA FAC - .20

    Hi to all,

I finally converted my AA410 XTRA FAC SIDE
LEVER .177 succesfully to .20 Some of the specs,

    - The rifle shoots an average of 1050 fps, chronied.
    - Pellets used - JSB Exact Diabolo 13.73 grain = 33.6 fpe
    - Personally I think the accuracy has also improved from the original.

I bought the Barrel from Boondock and had it turned to spec. (20` Walther Lothar)
I also bought a spare set of brass fittings from the AA importer.
These fittings needs to be drilled to 5.2mm with a 5mm diameter o-ring fitted inside. The original slider was dumped for a new 5.2mm one. This creates an air tight seal inside the o-ring

The 4.5mm magazine drilled to 5.2mm for a perfect pellet fit.(You need to replace the original o-ring with a slightly bigger one).

Please excuse the poor picture quality.

Im very pleased with the end result!!!!

Probably the best hunting air rifle in SA...

    .177 = about 22fpe
shots are about 40 to 110 bar.

I havn`t touch the transfer port or the main spring yet, thats the next project sometime in the future.

And yes I took out some rabbits over the weekend. 60m shots are easily achieved.

    No probs Craig.

I have also experimented with stiffer springs - The result - very poor.
No improvement on the velocity and you waste to much air.

The transfer port is 4mm. Personally I would not reccomend to go bigger!

I have also done more testing with different pellet weights and with the original spring.

    1. JSB EXACT 13.73gr = between 1010 - 980 fps
20 shots fired from a 200 bar fill. After 20 shots the air pressure was at 150 bar. Not bad at all.

    2. Logun Pennetrator 15.6gr = 950 fps constantly.

    3. EJ 23gr = average 750fps

The stiffer spring makes a difference to EJ pellets pushing the velocity op to 840fps.
(Then again you loose a lot of air and not worth it!!!!)

Slightly higher velocities can be expected with a longer barrel (24")

Some rifles and chronies may differ from mine.

    36fpe.. that's impressive number for a s400 fac with 20" barrel.

the 24" or 25" should do push pellet 60-75fps faster than 20". which about 15% power gain.

34 fpe from 14 grains roughly speaking and about 20-25 good shots is very good, if you only get 10-15 shots or so that would still be good but unless you are using a bottle may not be as much fun ; ) if your hunting only though its probably spot on either way
nice light pointable package thats got the power to do the business to 100 yards quite possibly

Always nice to see folks from overseas on our forum.

Pieter, What rifles do you own?
I know .20 is not very popular in England. 5.5mm is a bit tricky to get licenced in SA.
