    Hi Guys,

Im looking at making knives, from forge to anvil. I recently completed building me a coal forge and its working well. Brake drum and some piping + hair dryer. Im looking for an Anvil or train track any guidance on that?

Any help on getting started will be appreciated,

    Thanks

    Howzit,
Try quality second hand stores for an anvil.
There are a couple in Pietermaritzburg, but shipping will kill you.
    Try http://anvils.co.za as well.
Be interesting to see how many people on the airrifle forum forge. All I know about forging is keep the red side pointed away from pets and children

It won't be today, but I was interested in knife making at one stage and downloaded some plans. I'm about to hit the road, I will look on my pc when I get a chance.
There are some VERY talented knifemakers on this forum and they all helluva nice guys.

    Hello,

Proper anvils in good condition are hard to find , new ones are very expensive and also hard to find.

As an interim measure you could try using a large (12 pounds or heavier) sledge hammer head sunk into a log of wood.

I use a length of railway line for hammering on , I do not forge knives.

    Perhaps this idea will help.

    Cheers.
