The REAL question is why are you shooting them in the first place?

Because they look pretty! I think we've all fallen into this trap at some stage in our early airgun carreers, I still have 3 tins of the H&N copper plated crap that I bought with my Crosman at that stage. I doubt there is a barrel on earth that will shoot that stuff straight...

I also have a few tins from when I started pcp.
In the Evanix they did not shoot to bad actually. They were a big step up from Marksman

And steel is harder than copper so unless your barrel is lead or plastic or steel from China fear not.

Copper or copper-plated? Neither would harm a steel barrel.

Copper-plated should perform the same as lead pellets of the same shape and weight provided the plating isn't too thick. The plating is supposed to prevent lead fouling. Also shouldn't produce lead dust; so your swimmers should be safe.

Copper pellets (if they exist) probably won't do so good. The head won't deform very easy increasing the required engraving force. The skirt would also not deform enough to the seal the bore behind it. Reduced mv and inconsistant. The barrel should be fine though.
