    Default Compact Binoculars

    Hello,

I am in the market for a pair of GOOD compact binoculars.

    I have a budget of R3000.00.

I want a pair in the 7 to 10 magnification range.

Is there anything worthwhile in this price range that is NOT of Chinese manufacture ?.

Please do not recommend Swarovski , Zeiss or Leica as I cannot afford them .

    Supplier names will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Cheers.

I had a set of Bushnell 10X28s. Got stolen out of my car and the insurance replaced them with a Bushnell 10X32. Lovely glass. Compact and rubberized. I think they were about R2000

I've got a Nikon sportstar 10x25. As happy as a tornado in a trailer park with it. About R1800. Only thing about 10 x magnification is stability. You need to be able to hold it still.

    Thanks All for the information.

I am still doing my homework before deciding , there are quite a few choices out there.

I may end up spending much more than I thought however .

    Cheers.

Nikon 8x32 compact. Been hunting with it for quite a few years now. Hooked on to a chesty it is very handy when walking and stalking or hiking and the glass is very good. Got it as a gift so I do not know the exact price but I believe back then it was <R1000.
Good value for money. Unfortunately I damaged it this hunting season while leopard crawling across a dirt road trying to get closer to Impala. Maybe the damage is just cosmetic however if it needs replacement I will probably look out for the same.

    Hello,

OK so I went completely Ape-shoot and puchased this for far too much money.

It is a Swarovski 8x25 "pocket model" binocular.

But what the heck , I am old and I cannot take my money with me when I die.

The trouble with these things is that once one has seen and used high-end equipment , nothing else seems satisfactory.

I looked at quite a few other binoculars , but nothing else compares to the build quality and engineering of the Swarovski.

I hope that the photo's show up , as I no longer use Photobucket.

    Cheers.
