    Default Importing of Air Rifle

    Good Day fellow Air Gunners.
If i want to import an air rifle into South Africa, would i require a permit for the importing or a letter stating that no permit is required?
Anybody that can help or steer me in the direction of somebody that would be able to help please.
    The help would be appreciated.

You will need an ITAC permit at bare minimum: Import Control Application Forms - ITAC

Thank you for the help and quick reply Citizen. I have found some Air gun exporters that said they can export and ship the rifle to SA.

So lets try and see if it works.

Just bring them with you in a suitable flight case.

On more than one occasion I have brought an air rifle with me on a visit to SA and left them with their new owners.

As they do not require licensing in SA there is no paperwork, in regard of the firearms desk at ORT, once they understood that they were airguns and outside of the licensing process they had no further interest in them.

If you are asked why are you bringing it say you are attending a competition - talk nicely to one of the clubs for an invite.

Hi Dale. Unfortunately i am not in the US. I live in SA. So that will not work. I will have to buy it online and let it shipped to SA.

    Importing is a costly affair.
As CK mentioned you will need an ITAC permit. as well as an importers permit unless the courier uses theirs. the clearing and delivery costs are high very high especially for one rifle at a time.
Vats and Duties are high as well.

It works out cheaper to fly to Europe, collect the rifle and claim the tax back at the airport and return with the rifle.
