Default Seeking help for Gecado Model-27

    Hi guys,
I've been using a gecado model. 27 for quite a few years now for PC & plinking. Only lately has it come to my knowledge that the gun had belonged to my late great grandfather and obviously i came to the conclusion that it must be a shade older than i had originally thought. I am attaching photos and i was hoping if anyone could enlighten me as to how old the gun could be as well as what the gun would be worth. Thanks so much in advance.

    Hello Erhard,

The 27 is a fairly common rifle
Still plenty of them floating around.
Yours looks like a early1960's model.
From 1965 date stamps were put on them at the left rear of the compression tube just after the Made in Germany stamp.

Value in immaculate condition would be around R2000-2500.
From what I can see the condition of yours is not to good,
Would put the value at around R1200-1600.

What does add in the favor of value is when both the original front and rear sights are intact.
Lots of people remove them when they fit a scope and never put them back, even when selling the rifle. And so there are plenty of very good condition ones floating around, but minus their sights.

Something you should keep in mind, seeing that you've used it often and it has been in your family quite some time, is that it may be in need of a good service. That is a good strip, clean and relube. Especially since the piston seal is made of leather. this needs some care to not dry out too much or not be torn apart. I would suggest sending it to someone on the forum that's close to your area and have it serviced. That way it'll last another 3-4 generations ;-)

    Hello,

The Gecado 27 is a fine little rifle.

As suggested , have the rifle thoroughly serviced by a competent airgun smith , it will then last almost forever.

The "WB" serial number is probably not the original serial number , but it is one stamped on by the South African Police when airguns once required a licence.

I also would date this rifle to somewhere in the 1960's.

Keep and treasure this rifle , it is a good one.

    Cheers.

Do you see a scope rail or grooves on this rifle?

Overall a nice little vintage rifle.

As others have said have it serviced and with looking after it will way outlast the modern Diana offerings.
