Default 1 Stop Air Rifle Shop

Are there any truley dedicated Air Rifle shops in SA that offer anything and everything related to Air Rifles. Im talking all types or rifle, scopes, pellets, bags, slings, tuning kits, cases, targets... etc, you get my point.

Reading through Airgun World magazine, all you see is these massive dedicated shops in the UK offering all sorts of attractive deals and upgrades that are available.

I know things will be different in SA with the exchange rates and import duties etc.. but has anyone ever considered opening up such a shop? At the moment, in my shopping experience, you have to travel around to get what you are looking for - pellets from this shop and a bag from another... and a lot of buying is probably done online (there are some really good online shops based in SA).

I suppose the million dollar question is, would a shop like this do well in SA? is the sport at such proportions that a shop like this is even required?

The really unique thing (for these UK shops) is that they offer a complete range of products, starting at really low cost and all the way up to truley specialised equipment costing an arm and a leg. This for me makes the sport more attractive to the masses. I think a lot of guys (and gals) are intimidated when going into these kinds of shops because a lot of the time only the high end equipment is for sale.

Just some food for thought on this quiet Friday morning

Thought about it but you would have to diversify, sell pots and pans and stuff too because of the market demand and be in a good position, lots of passing trade, next to a hardware store? Couple of schools close by that do shooting on the side would be good.
Although I love my Air Arms, its one hell of a schlep to take it to the dealer or vice versa (Sorry Louis, you need to move closer to town).

So expand the range to include the camping, outdoors and GPS navigation type stuff?

Wonder if you could expand it even further and offer lessons on the ins and outs of air rifle shooting. The government will love that idea. Buyers can get an air rifle education before they go out and shoot wrecklessly.

Hennie(Sniper) had a shop like that for a few years but the trade dried up. Not enough people interested in SA in decent air rifles. Everybody wants high power cheapies to plink with, very few want to shoot seriously and spend money.

There you go you see, he never stocked any Pots....He He!
Anyway, I still think its a lot to do with position. I went into a camping shop late last year, they where just stocking it up. Went to get a couple of cooler bags I liked, guess what, closed for wrap up. Baaaad position.

I would agree with most of the comments above. At this point in time airguns just aren't regarded seriously by enough people in SA to make a business of this type viable as a stand alone concern, particularly when the high price of the quality imported rifles is taken into account.

That isn't to say there isn't a niche for this sort of enterprise, but don't expect to make a living out of doing it on its own.

This is why we have so many ingenious people on here producing their own accessories.

I shoot traditional bows and have the same problem, tons of shops for the compound shooters but few for the trad. guys. End up making my own stuff, but its pretty rewarding.

I have a mate in the UK who makes periodic trips to SA, I am sure we could make a plan for some of that stuffs.

    Perhaps something like this:

Brings a tear to your eye...
