Heavy pellet at the same speed has more energy for pest control. The problem is at such high speeds the pellet will become less accurate.
smaller prey will also be harder to stop as the pellet will just pass straight through without imparting its energy to the prey.

This is a very tricky subject, you need to talk to those who control the same as what you want to.

If it's for PC, then it also depends on the size of the target.

When it comes to shooting at anything animated, I believe that shot placement overrides power every time.

Go for a high quality 4.5 pcp rifle shooting a JSB 8.44 grain pellet at around 750-800 fps (12 fpe).

Check on the UK forums what they do with a 12 fpe rifle. Think Watership Down.... all possible.

In order to attempt any sort of reply, first what rifles are you considering buying?

Many manufacturers will quote rifle velocities in excess of 1000 fps, the 380 m/s is around 1250 fps.

In reality many of these rifles are not delivering real world velocities at this level.

Realistically unless you are looking at some very specialised serious equipment do not get taken by marketing hype and bullsh*t.

Normal air rifle pellet designs generally work best at velocities under 1000 fps and seriously the object is to consistently and accurately hit a target and this is far more important than just velocity alone.

For most target shooting purposes a 4.5 mm rifle running up to 800 fps will give pretty much the best accuracy levels with a quality pellet.

For pest control calibre is more open to your choice, you would not want to be looking at less than 12ft.lbs (16 Joules) with up to 30 ft.lbs being a sensible maximum for many air rifle designs, particularly pre-charged guns, with spring guns up to 20 ft.lbs with appropriate design.

Go for a 4.5... they penetrate better than the 5.5 and I highly doubt you'll get a 5.5 springer shooting at 380ms anyway... get a decent 4.5 pcp and a good scope to match it

Good morning fine people of ARF. I recently bought an Artemis CR600. Unfortunately I have not had the time shoot it properly yet. For some reason I did not do my research on this air rifle before plunking down my cash and now I am seeking your opinions on this airgun.

And what's the filling capacity on the coast?
Answer, the CR600 is a Co2 airgun that takes three 12 gram Co2 cartridges. Does not matter whether you are on a mountain high, a valley low or a river deep, the filling capacity will always be the same.

    Helium, Co2

For PC, go for 4.5mm PCP and put decent scope.
Baracuda 10.5gr or JSB monstor 13.5gr is good enough for range up to 50meters.

If you increase the velocity more than 900fps then accuracy will go down.
try difference speed from 800fps to 900fps to find the best velocity for your gun.
