    Default Stoeger A30 5.5 (Modded) Yellow Pages through-and-through @ 5m

Installed my Custom Designed Spring in my Stoeger A30 today, I really thought that I could not squeeze more out of this little Pet of mine. But I was wrong. I am constantly pleasantly surprised with this little Springer.

I use Phone Books at 5m to Benchmark the capability of various guns and pellet combinations by noting number of impacted pages. Also to assess the efficacy of the Tunes that I do.

I was very chuffed with the performance of the Stoeger. But I am sure you know that itch to get more power and action. I designed a 1220 Newton Spring and had it made locally. Yes yes I know that our local springsteel is problematic. That is exactly why I overdesigned it and installed it to specs that allows it to perform at only 60% potential that kicks in at 20mm Piston Travel. But *Bliksem* what a performance!!!

Poor Victim = Cape Peninsula Yellow Pages 700 Pages cover to cover.

1st Shot - JSB Jumbo Exact Express 14.35gr ... 481 Pages (Previous Best 227 Pages)

2nd Shot - H&N FTT Power Copper Coated 14.66gr ... 700+ Pages (through and through) (Previous Best 357 Pages)

    3rd Shot - H&N Baracuda Power Copper Coated 21.14gr ... 668 Pages (Previous Best 333 Pages)

Dang Man!!! Double the Power!!! and still Sub-Sonic (But I think very close to it).

Rustig, NO Double Recoil or Torque Twist

Thinking of having it between the Wife and I in the bed tonight

Going to run some strings across a Chronograph today to see whether I can or need to tweak the Transfer Port.
I know I should wait till the Spring "settles" at around 1000 shots but I am impatient and at my age, time is a relative concept. You never know how much of it you have left.
    Will post the results.

I realised that there had been nothing long and hard in our bed for a long time and did not know how she would react. So discretion being the better part of valour I chickened out

Maybe it was a wise decision...... just now she takes a liking to that long and hard thing and decides it sleeps with her and relegate you to the floor....

Yes. Exactly what ran through my mind. As well as akward questions about comparible barrel length and bore and penetrative force. Just not going there.

    Nice post.
    Couple of questions:
    1. How did the percieved recoil change?
    2. Trigger pull change, with the stronger spring?
    Thanks

So, it shoots through the yellow pages at 5 metres.

Will it hit it consistently at 50 metres?

The Chronograph readings should be more enlightening
I looked up a test I did in 2001 also at 5m into the Yellow Pages and my humble 8.5 ft/lb Mercury managed 528 pages with H&N pointed.

    1. To baseline recoil on any gun before tuning I balance it at it's Centre of Gravity point on the curved top rail of the back of a metal chair, rest the bottom of the back edge of the stock on my left hand index finger (thus not holding it at all), squeeze the trigger between the thumb and forefinger of my right hand and observe exactly how the gun moves during the shot. That is the most objective measurement that I could get without using measuring equipment. Holding and firing is subjective and differs from hold and strength and thus from person to person. Initially (when new) the gun would jump back, then forward and torque to the right. I tuned that out of it resulting in just a straight linear backwards motion of +-2cm (depending on pellet weight). It kind of shot like a PCP. Did the same test with the more powerful spring (after taking care to anchor the back of the spring very firmly on the guide etc. etc. etc.) and the result is now 2.5cm with a 21.14gr. So there is slightly more recoil but still controlled and linear straight backwards. Holding and shooting free standing the perception of a sharper crack, water vapour and a more intense kick in the shoulder is there, but that is perception and might all be in my head. Hope that makes sense to you.

    2. I do not have a guage to measure trigger pull weight so here I have to rely on perception. Definately more defined second stage and a crisper release. The pull is not heavy, The release is just crisper. Point of release does not seem to have changed at all. Hope that makes sense to you.

So as I said in a previous Post, It feels "Rustig"

It is still sub-sonic and depending on what the "sweet" pellet is for it now, I see no reason why it should not. The proof will be in the tasting over the weekend, if the weather allows.

Wow!! Then not humble at all.

My so-called "friend" (he is only my friend because he owns a chrony btw) considers working to earn an income more important than shooting an airgun!!! Can you believe that? Insane. So Chrony shots also over the weekend.
I guess that pollution over the past 17 years has thickened the air to the extent that pellets slow down a lot quicker than in 2001

Is there any way to load Videos directly to this Site. I would like to illustrate some things.
If not, then where (except for Youtube) would be ok to upload and Link to this Site?

Still trying to get Bitchute to work properly, or maybe it is just me being stupid but here is a vid to indicate recoil / or lack thereof. Watch the Back Sight in relation to the Cupboard behind it and you will get a good guage of how little recoil there really is. Best to set the Player to 1/2 Speed. Things happen rather quickly. Stoeger Recoil with 21.14gr

as well as the other one Stoeger 14.66gr
