Default How to calculate energy from an airgun

    Howsit guys.
I am curious to know how one calculates energy, either in joules or ft/lbs, with an air rifle.
For example, if i have a 5.5mm rifle shooting a 15 gn pellet at 800 fps, what would the energy be?
If i have a .177 rifle shooting a pellet at the same speed and weight as a 5.5mm calibre rifle, would the energy be the same?
    Thanks in advance.

    Or.....

    (Pellet weight in grains x velocity x velocity) / 450240 = energy in ft/lbs
