Default First shots and I hate it

I bought a hammerli ar20 with scope etc last week and last night was the first Ive used it.

First 25 shots I hated it, it didn't group, felt weird and just made me angry.

I grabbed some water from the house and the next 25 shots blew me away with its accuracy and ease of use.

I then remembered how much I disliked my hw97, LGU and CZ200 in my first shoot with them.

Does anybody else have this settling in issue with their first shots out a new air rifle?

The AR 20 reg can get sticky if the rifle is not used for a long time. Usually within 20-100 shots it settles and the accuracy returns to amazing. If the reg still does not want to settle just put a drop of oil in the filling hole and it should sort itself out. Lovely rifles at stupid silly cheap price.

It must have been the first shot. I frikken love this gun now.
The fit is almost perfect. Mine didnt come with the rail and I would like some extra height to compensate for the boep.

I cannot believe its accuracy and efficiency. 50 pellets from 200bar to 180 bar ( I dont have a 300bar tank or pump)

One more question, is their truth in having to clean the barrel every 100-150 shots?

Some people do, others every 50, others like me every 500 or so shots, IF I remember.

    Such a tack driver!

Quick question. What was the general consensus on milling out the shroud?

Weird what a contentious issue this is - in general.
Some peeps are neurotic about barrel cleaning every 100 shots, others say "Don't bother cleaning until accuracy falls off".
But it seems that no one actually knows for sure whether there is 'One right way' - or even One right way that applies to every air rifle.
Who knows whether there's any truth to the stories about pellet lubrication with colloidal graphite, PTFE and what-have-you, or of sterilising your barrel in an autoclave.

From the Air Arms Ultimate Sporter R owner's manual:
For ultimate accuracy, clean and re-lube the barrel frequently. It is difficult to advise how often is best for every circumstance, but every 250 shots is not too often if the desire is to keep the barrel in the best possible condition.

    My experience with HW100 :
    - H&N pellets foul the barrel more quicly than JSB (tested this repeatedly)
    - the more gunge (of any type) that you put on the rifle and in the barrel to clean to it, the more often you need to clean it
    - my rifle retains accuracy the longest when fed with exclusively JSBs and tight dry cotton cleaning patches. No oilu

For me. I always dislike a rifle as i get it then i end up loving it.
Its more the fact the last one shot so well as i was used to it and the new one takes some getting used to.
Like AdrianV says. Its the nut behind the butt

Late last year, before I was certain that my son was serious about shooting and wanting to be a gunsmith, I bought him a Gamo Maxxim and a Crossman Crusher for myself for some plinking.

The Crossman I got had a surprisingly wonderful trigger, meaning that while pulling the trigger you wondered when it was going to fire and be totally surprised when it actually did.
Mark_F shot a few shots with it at Northcliff and promptly ran out of words, attempting to tell me what a piece of $%^&# it was. He would've been spot on, had words existed (expletives included) to truly describe this springer.

The rifle self destructed a week or two later when the piston sheared the tube into two pieces.

A month or two ago I bought a S400 (with the plan to join Daniel in FT), fitted and sighted the Discovery 6-24x scope. Within 10-15 shots I totally fell in love with this rifle and it's accuracy. I promptly decided to name her.
Nothing better than to snuggle up to Betty and take a shot.......

Mike, you know that rifles are meant to be shot with to be appreciated. They're not like trophy wifes that cost you money, and you don't know what the hell to do with them.
