Default The road back to basics...

A quick quiz for all of you that think you know everything about shooting...

The gun... A fantastic HW100 with a 310 barrel, Weihrauch silencer and Optisan Viper 3-12x44, set to shoot an 8.44gr pellet at around 760fps. Off a bag, at 30m.

    Nice hey?

The problem group... The circle/dot is a 10/2mm. This is just one of many KAK 5 shot groups from FT sitting through to benched ones...NO RESOLUTION of issue.

How does one put 2 pellets on top of each other, then 2 more, and then hit what you were actually aiming at?

The 50+ shot group after the Eureka moment.... THAT'S 50+shots through the same hole until the end of the air!

The shot on the top left was an ID 10 T error on my part. The bottom (long lateral 4 shot) group was what happened when the rifle went out of regulator zone.

Mike... I apologise on behalf of everyone who could not shoot this gun properly!

SO.... can anyone think of what the problem was that baffled many a decent shooter who thought the gun was broken, or the previous owner %$@ed it up?

Mark_F, you are excluded, because you know.

Looks like it took sandpaper to fix the problem so probably crown issues.

Could have been either end of the barrel .........

I've also seen seating areas , ports etc ....... that cause a problem.

I checked everything you guys have mentioned. They were not the issue.

    The Eureka moment...

As I moved my head backwards in frustration, I noticed that the crosshairs moved off the target. I then moved my head side to side and was astounded at the distance it moved off the target.

It was good old PARALLAX ERROR!!!

While I assumed the scope was in focus, and therefore parallax corrected for the distance, I was wrong.

As I turned the side wheel (fractionally) the crosshair vs head movement disappeared, and I was able to shoot a consistent, tight group.

As simple as that.... one of the BASICS we all forget, and never consider as a solution to erratic shooting.
