Newbie ask, new rifle new scope no click chart, is this something I can arrive with, have a hand in sorting this and still shoot? Kit to be confirmed.

I'm gonna miss this one. I was looking forward to this shoot, but something has come up which I cannot postpone.

I followed Mark_F's recommended way - I went to the range and shot all the distances and marked the clicks.
When I entered the data into Chairgun it was just about spot-on with what I had shot. A click here and there difference, so I decided to use Chargun's clicks.

Enter your rifle's data into chairgun and use that as a base for now.

If you can, try and get to Northcliff on Friday afternoon. There are usually a few FT guys there verifying/tweaking their equipment. They will help. Everybody helped when Daniel got started.

Much less stress than leaving it for Saturday.

You're going to have a tough time setting all of that up during sight-in. Print a click chart from chairgun, and just do your zero and a few spot checks on the sight-in range. If you need help, send me a PM or whatsapp. My number is 083 458 2561.

So I decided to bite the bullet and attend the Nomads shoot, bear in mind I have never shot or competed in this type of sports before.

I purchased a Hammerli AR20 FT from Cor, a FT rifle with plenty ways of adjusting to my own way of shooting. I'll post my first impressions of this rifle at the end of my post.

I do need to add that I purchased, and collected, this rifle from Cor, one of our Protea team members two days before, who kindly zero'd the rifle and sorted a click chart for me, all done, wow!

So I arrived to pick up the rifle and Cor had already done the above but in addition I was given a complete intro into FT as well as more info my brain can handle! Awesome stuff!

I did not have ranging marks on my Big Nikko wheel that Hannes fitted to the rifle the day before I bought it but Cor kindly suggested I shoot with him at Nomads and he'll give me range info.

So arrived at Nomads Saturday morning, new at all this but really excited to get into the FT thing.

I was not disappointed, what a great bunch of people!

I had to adjust my settings on the scope a tad during the sighting session and then into the real stuff, shooting at targets, with little holes, that vary in size...

I had the good luck of being teamed up with Cor, and what a great time I had! I missed many shots but the ability to shoot and have feedback from a great guy and a Protea was amazing and will always remain as a very fond memory.

It was a very challenging day though, physically I was not prepared for how hard it is to shoot through 25 stations and 50 shots in the sun and dust. This was also my first time with a large scope and I really battled to "scope" the targets, costing me time and again putting pressure on me to take the shot, a recipe for not hitting the target. I did not fret as I realize all these are things that you need to work on and spend plenty of time to improve, one shot at a time. My main challenge is finding a more comfy and accurate way to sit and shoot as my sit was "bad" and I had hectic drift when trying to sight and shoot at targets, drift being me not being able to hold a clear shot.

So is FT easy, not at all. Is it appealing to newbies, for sure! Am I converted, YES! Now it's all up to training, practice and more practice, and then more practice.

As above I am hooked and love the challenge FT brings.

So what about my "new" Hammerli AR20-FT, again I guess this is not a STAYR but hell it's as accurate as you want it and built really well. The one I got from COR has been modified with a stunning real wood laminated red and black once-off grip and adjustable cheeck piece with a fully adjustable competition trigger and quite a few carbon fiber bits including the adjustable hamster and lobster at the butt with all the adjustments I need. I fitted a Hannes Loubscher silencer, this made a huge difference in the sound of this rifle, I had a few comments at the range about the reduced sound already. Am I an expert? NO, do I love the rifle? YES! Not perfect as I found it front heavy and needed to adjust for that, in saying that I was told all target rifles are heavy. I see myself growing into the Hammerli AR20-FT, adapting as we go along. It's a beautiful rifle and customized even more beautiful, a naked serious gun that shoots awesome!

    my 2 cents worth

    Kind regards,

    Ian

Thanks to all those attended the shoot.

A few comments from the club:
    1) Great to see new faces
    2) That 58m target. Eish ... apologies. To the 5 or so shooters (which includes Ian) that actually managed to knock it down :
    3) Unfortunately, the honour-system employed at the food and drinks didn't work out so we won't be doing such again.

Congrats to all the winners. Cor & Marnus : excellent shooting!

Maar dis lekker as jy dit skiet en hy val, net nie so lekker as hulle dan die teiken moet ontrek en jy verloor die punt nie.
