if it has varnish on it you need to use paint stripper to remove it...no need to grind away

Use paint stripper to remove the varnish. Spray it with sanding sealer and then spray it black at least 3 coats. Dont use mat black, it gets dirty very quickly.

    Hi Boondock,

If you are lucky your stock is coated in a varnish that will easily react with a paint stripper. Some of the varnishes seem to be very resilient and dont react at all well to stripper - then you have the wonderful job of rubbing the stock down by hand!

Once you have bare wood you have two choices either use a wood dye and re-varnish or paint. The choice is yours.

A hydrodip would be the best I reckon, however I only know of the UK company offering this.

Was talking to Refresh about this during the week. Very interesting process.

    Check it out here.....
