    Default Speed Spead

    Hi all,

Since grouping seems to be quiet subjective on springers (e.g. there is no reliable way to put a springer on a bench and it all depends on the shooter) I decided to check some pellets speeds with Chrony. Here are the results on my HW97K after it has seen about 1200 pellets through it (so it should be smoother now comapring to a new rifle):

    AA Diabolo Field 4.52:
    763.4 765.7 758.4 762.9 766.1 758.5 758.3 757.7 750.4 755.5 758.3 758.7 760.8 755.9 759.6 758.4 752.6 751.3
    spread 15.7

    JSB Exact Diabolo 4.52:
    754.9 750.3 754.8 748.2 755.5 753.9 762.1 760.1 754.1 769.4 769.3 761.8 758.4 761.3 754.7 760.2 758.8 765.1
    spread 19.0

    JSB Exact Diabolo 4.53:
    765.8 763.8 766.9 757.9 765.9 758.0 769.1 748.0 769.1 759.8 758.1 759.3 767.4 772.2 766.0 772.1
    spread 24.2

Now I wonder since the main purpose of a V-Glide kit is to make it more accurate is it worth installing such kit and if the kit will be able to give me better consistency than the spread with AA of 15.7fps?

What speads are you getting with such kit installed and also with PCPs and regulated PCPs?

nope..purpose of V-Mach kit is not to get a smaller velocity spread at all...it makes the firing cycle tighter and less twangy...changes the whole firing\recoil characteristics of the rifle

the figures you quote do not really tell the whole story...you need to fire hundreds of each type of pellet before you can conclude which has the smallest ES and also which gives the best accuracy...in fact SD is a better figure than ES

one single bad pellet can throw the whole ES reading way off and destroy the results...

Well, I've been shooting AA Diabolo Field 4.52 with it since I noticed sometime ago that they were giving me better groupings than JSB, so consider 15.7 spread as accurate as it gets because the rifle has seen 500 AA through it before the test.

Is V-Glide going to give me better consistency than that?

I have tried HW97K with V-Glide before and the recoil is much less but if the consistency is not better, then I don't really see a point of installing such kit. Rather learn how to handle the recoil the way it is.

no, the V-Mach kit is probably not going to give you better consistency than that...and it is not the point..

shoot a custom springer with a good spring\guide kit and then you will see what I am on about..

Guido, I have shot few shots with Yannis' HW97K spinger (V-Glide and GinB) but unless V-Glide kit gives me better speed consistency, I really don't see a point of getting it.

I rather first try for better consistency, washing and lubeing the pellets.

Swordfish .Spend time with both guns and you will see that there is a vast improvement in handling with the v-glide

I know the feeling is very different and it help a lot of holding the rifle on the exact spot but if the pellet speed variation is not good enough there is no much point of trying because with inconsistent speed you can never achieve accuracy.

Do you have an idea of 100m grouping with 20fps speed difference and below 12fpe muzzle power?
