I recently bought another talon, 2nd hand off the forum. Did quite a bit of work on spring designs, hammers and valve etc, (Cost of making 1 spring or 4 is the same) did the following mod’s from my spares bin:
20” .20 barrel,
Stripped, cleaned and tuned the valve
stuck the old silencer on it.
The prelim results are in
Velocity is 855 fps (22fpe) (managed to adjust the valve to get 868 fps). With a high flow valve this will increase to 1300fps.
Grouping was done at 26 metres. Not up to the Ft standard but not bad for a first attempt.
Scope used was an old 3-9 x 35.
I am now wondering if I put a 16” .177 on it I should be able to reduce the velocity to 750 - 800 fps (which may give me 12fpe) and then I can join the FT guys and see what the fuss is about.
Or Alternatively I put in my spare “strong spring” and hi flow valve and sell it (as I already have a 50fpe rifle) so that I can buy an entry level FT rifle. Me thinks I will try the .177 route first, if the ft bug bites then we will see. The grouping has to improve though otherwise I am on a hiding to nothing.
