does reticle focus have any effect on parallax correction with an AO?

eg... if you reticle is not in focus, does your eye get confused when setting your range on the objective?

Eye gets confused regardless, your eyes will naturally want to focus the target, which is why you focus the reticle and focus on it with your AO focus/target in background. That way it won't feel like you've been lifting weights with your eyes after a few minutes.

Trick is to focus the reticle looking at a featureless thing like a wall of in the distance, or looking up into a hazy sky and then focussing the recticle. When the reticle is in focus, get the parallax focused when taking aim.

I'm not sure how all this works or relates to each other, but I find that at various reticle adjustments, there are various objective adjustments which correspond at various distances (does that make sense?). So I reckon 1st get your reticle focused for your eye, then focus the objective. There are many corresponding points of focus in this spectrum.
