Default What to expect from an UNTUNED BSA Lightning XL...

To all you BSA lightning XL owners out there...

IRT consistency I struggled for a while (hold, recoil, trigger release, amongst others) but am down to a 40mm c2c group at 30m.

    Should I be getting better?

Guido... what do you get out of your tuned XL?

BludLust, I get around 20mm grouping at 30m with Powapells in my Lightning XL FAC if I put my mind to it......at least I thought it was FAC. I bought it a year ago from SharpEdge and they sold it to me as FAC. I only managed to chrony it last week and it is below 11ft/lb!!! Shooting accupells at 785fps, so the ft/lb is around 10.8 or so. Now I'm thinking of getting a v-mach fac tune for it to bring it up to speed.

Beware, the FAC version is crap and will self destruct. Keep it at 12 foot pounds and you have yourself a gem. For a springer, the XL is too light for 15 or more foot pounds, you dont want a scope killing twanger!

    I love the gun.

I just want info on what an untuned version should be capable of, and also what a tuned version can do, before I spend major money on it.

Either a gas ram or a V-Mach kit.

    Any advice on the two?

I thought I'd put the v-mach fac kit in, use it for a year and by then it would probably be down to 12ft/lb's again as apposed to putting a standard v-mach kit in it and it dropping after a year to 11 or 10 ft/lbs.
If it was a consistant, smooth and easy 12ft/lb I'd be happy.

if I do my part around 20mm at 20m...it is very challenging to shoot due to it's diminutive size but man..so very satisfying!

Ok... my mind is resting a bit easier.

I thought I was just a crappy shot.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so the 40mm thing worried me. I would be happy with 20mm at 20m.

And yes... this is probably the most satisfying gun I have ever owned... when I get it right!
