Default Where do you put your thumb?

hi guys, just interested to see...........

tried shooting thumb up this weekend, still have to get use to it, but i found.......maybe it's got to do with the hand geometry, with the thumb directly behind the line of pull.......trigger pull control/feel/balance has improved.

I think it depends on the stock as well.

Noramlly upright thumb position as it seems to give better trigger control.

As Allan points out though it is somewhat dependent on stock design.

I have this habit of resting my thumb on top of the bolt. This way I know that the bolt it properly closed before firing. Had it pop too many times in my ears after walking through some bush catching the bolt on a twig or something.

I also use thumb up. I started shooting with 97K springer early this year, battled to get groupings. ON THIS FORUM (for those guys into the overseas mags) the guys informed me that the springer should be given space to recoil, do not hold it to tight they said. I started holding the rifle lighter, putting my thumb up and immediately my groupings improved. I still do it today with my PCP.

Thanks to all the guys out there for sharing your knowledge.

MCJ, I agree with you on the springer hold. I hold my HW90 the same way. I heard someone call it the "Howitzer Hold". Apt name I think.

Ja Gerrief I felt like I had my thumb or somewhere inbetween after missing a 20m shot on the last range at Leeukop
