Made a bolt that stands proud of wood +- 3mm and tapped it for the hamster nut to be screwed in, very strong & stable

Like Allan said take your time on this one. Get to know your rifle trajectory and scope intemately, then only start looking at hamsters etc.....

    Errol,

For what its worth I personally think one of the most important modifications to a stock is an adjustable cheekpiece to ensure proper eye scope alignment that does not rely on your neck muscles to maintain.

Such a modification can be done as an after market item by a competent woodworker:

The above is an Air Arms thumbhole stock with modified cheekpiece, this one has long bolts going right through the stock to provide a degree of adjustment using spacer bars of various length.

This is a standard sporter stock that has been modified, using a simpler system of two bars cut to the right length fitted into blind holes drilled into the wood.

Hope that gives you some ideas.

    Errol,

On the sporter stock I did not do the work, the thumbhole I got Nick Jenkinson to do the cutting of the wood, I made the adjuster parts.

I have cut and raised stocks in the past though, just a matter of having the confidence to do it and some reasonable equipment.

    Hi Dale,

I've got an S400 classic, and definitely think that I need to raise the cheek-piece. Do you (or anyone else) have ideas about who in the Jhb/Pta area would do this, and how much it would cost?

I don't have the tools or abilities (or guts) to do it myself!

    Cheers

Dale,I find it quite odd that you do not have a Sportsmatch GC2 in your collection.I'm sure you are aware of this fabled and, dare I say it,almost mythical status this rifle has acquired 20 years after it reached full production status. That was before Lothar Walther barrels even reached the airrifle scene.Yet this rifle could produce pinkie fingernail groups right out to 35 yards.I find a striking similarity between the GC2 sporter style stock and the NJ400FT.Is this pure coincidence or ???
It has always been a rifle which has fascinated me just because it was so ahead of it's time and is still today capable of winning the world championships in the right hands. When are we going to see a S400 in a Paul Wilson FT stock. After all that is where most GC2 MKII's found themselves in long long ago.I bet that would be a winning formula.
